Abstract

This article attempts to provide a comparative study of the background of the Progressive Movement and the post- colonialism era of Urdu poetry. An overview of the stages through which Urdu poetry, under the influence of colonialism and the Progressive Movement, underwent the post-colonial era of Pakistan and India. Progressive movement started in 1936 in Sub Continent. This movement influenced Urdu literature. As far as poetry is concerned, it was greatly influenced by this movement. A lot of poets took part in this movement. Faiz and Jalib were also among these poets. Fiaz was an active member of progressive movement. He wrote poems which are a reflection of progressive movement. Jalib was also the member of progressive movement. He accepted prison, punishment and fine, but did not leave this movement. The article is about resistant poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and his role in progressive movement.
